NetSurf is a well known open source browser for RISC OS computers. Current builds are using the ISO Latin 1 encoding for storing and handling text of webpages which makes viewing of other encoded web pages impossible. One of the RISCOS.be members, , will contribute patches to the NetSurf project so that the Unicode encoding is used instead.
Together with further development of UFont, an Unicode wrapper library for pre-RISC OS 5 machines originally written by James Bursa - one of the leading NetSurf developers, users can now view more foreign encoded web pages with this Unicode NetSurf version.
Note that the standard (pre-RISC OS 5) RISC OS fonts are used so RISC OS 3 up to RISC OS 5 users can use this.
A typical example are Japanese webpages :
NetSurf with Unicode support has been publically demonstrated for the first time at the RISCOS Expo 2004 show on 19th June 2004.
